Penn Station Access Project (Design-Build)

Project Scope

WJFE provide multiple demolition plans for four bridges.  Each demolition plan had multiple stages to complete the demolition with various crane locations.  Each operation also included bridge jacking, structural lifting, and shoring tower components.

LIRR Atlantic 6 Bridge

Project Scope

WJFE was contacted to provide the demolition plans for the existing railroad bridge deck over the Van Wyck Expressway.  The five-span curved bridge deck was saw-cut and panelized into 11,800 lb segments between the girders and removed using an excavator.

MTA MNR Prospect Hill Road Bridge 

Project Scope

Halmar contacted WJFE to provide demolition plans for the existing timber bridge deck with asphalt wearing surface as well as the existing steel truss superstructure and floor beams.  The asphalt and timber deck were removed utilizing a skid steer loader while the truss superstructure was removed in four sections.  The truss sections were analyzed for adequate lifting points and temporary shoring towers were utilized during the demolition process.

MTA MNR 14th Avenue Bridge 

Project Scope

A demolition plan was needed by Northeast Structural Steel for the existing timber bridge deck with asphalt wearing surface as well as the steel truss superstructure and floor beams.  WJFE analyzed the truss sections for adequate lifting points, temporary bracing requirements, and even used concrete deadman blocks to facilitate the demolition
